Consent on a shop, without losing the measurement

A shop runs more tracking than any other kind of site, and more of its revenue depends on it. Consent Studio is built so that honouring a shopper’s choice does not cost you the measurement you run the shop on.

  • Consent Mode v2 wired in
  • Survives checkout
  • One answer, every tag

From €10 a month. No credit card, no per-visitor billing.

A shop is where consent gets expensive

Four things make an online store harder than a brochure site, and all four cost money rather than just risk.

  1. There are more tags than anyone remembers

Analytics, the ad platform, a remarketing pixel, a review widget, a chat tool, a shipping tracker, an A/B testing script and two more that arrived with an app you installed last year. Each was added by somebody solving one problem, and none of them was added with consent in mind.

  2. Checkout is a different context

Many shops run checkout on a separate domain or a hosted flow, and consent taken on the storefront does not automatically travel with the customer. A banner that reappears at the payment step is worse than annoying, because it interrupts the one page you cannot afford to interrupt.

  3. Attribution breaks quietly

Turn on blocking without wiring up consent signals and your ad platform simply stops seeing conversions it used to see. Nothing errors. Revenue looks unchanged and the reported return on ad spend collapses, so the campaign gets cut for the wrong reason.

  4. The rules differ by market

A shop selling into several countries owes different defaults to different customers. Asking a German customer the Californian question is not just wrong, it is the version of wrong that a competitor will notice before you do.

What a shop needs on top of a banner

  • A tag manager that waits for the visitor’s choice

Every tag runs through one place, and that place knows what the customer allowed. Adding an eleventh tag becomes a decision about which category it belongs to rather than another script pasted into a theme file.

    • One place for every tag
    • Category per tag
    • No theme edits
  • Consent Mode v2, set up properly

Google gets the right signals from the first page load rather than after a redirect, so conversions from customers who declined can still be modelled. This is the single biggest thing standing between blocking and losing your measurement.

    • From first load
    • Advertising and analytics
    • Certified partner
  • Consent that survives the funnel

The answer follows the customer from a product page through the basket and into checkout, including where checkout is somewhere else. Asking twice is the fastest way to make a banner into a conversion problem.

    • Storefront to checkout
    • Across subdomains
    • Asked once
  • Per-market defaults

A rule per market: opt in where the law asks for opt in, opt out where it asks for opt out, in the languages you activate. A shop trading in six countries does not have to run six configurations.

    • By visitor region
    • Multilingual
    • One configuration

Rolling it out on a shop

  1. Register the domain

Seven days free. If your platform has a plugin, install that rather than pasting anything.

  2. Find out what is actually running

The first scan lists every tag on the store. On most shops this is the step that changes the plan.

  3. Sort tags into categories

Marketing, analytics, functional. This is the work, and it is a conversation rather than a configuration.

  4. Check the funnel end to end

Walk a purchase from landing page to confirmation and confirm the answer travelled with it.

Every merchant asks the same thing first, which is what a banner costs them at checkout. Sometimes the honest answer is that it costs something, and we would rather say so than sell you a number we made up.

Questions shop owners ask

Will a cookie banner hurt my conversion rate?

A badly placed one will, and the usual culprit is asking twice: once on the storefront and again at checkout. Ask once, carry the answer through the funnel, and the measurable effect is small. What does real damage is a banner that blocks the page until it is answered.

What happens to my Google Ads conversions?

With Consent Mode v2 wired in correctly, Google models conversions from customers who declined, so you keep a usable picture rather than losing those orders from reporting entirely. Without it, blocking removes them silently and your reported return on ad spend drops for a reason nobody can see.

Does consent carry through to a hosted checkout?

Yes, including where checkout runs on another domain, which is the case on several major platforms. This is worth testing on your own funnel before you trust it, because a shop that asks again at the payment step has turned a compliance tool into a conversion problem.

I sell into several countries. Do I need one banner per market?

No. One configuration serves them all, with the defaults following the customer’s region and the wording drawn from the languages you activated. Opt in applies in the EU and UK, opt out of sale and sharing applies in California and several other US states, and the banner picks based on who is looking.

My shop is on Shopify. Is there anything platform specific?

Yes, and it is worth reading the page for whichever platform you run, because the install route and the checkout behaviour differ. We have pages for the thirteen platforms we support most closely, and the underlying product is the same on all of them.

What does Consent Studio cost?

Ten euro a month per domain, with no limit on pages and no billing per visitor. That covers the banner, the tag manager and the weekly scan together, because all three are on every plan. Agencies and organisations running many domains have a partner rate, and organisations outside the fair use range have an Enterprise plan.

Where is our consent data stored?

In Amsterdam, on infrastructure owned and operated by Scaleway, a French company. That matters beyond the map pin: Scaleway is independently French rather than a European subsidiary of a US parent, so neither they nor we fall under the US CLOUD Act. Consent Studio itself is built and owned in the Netherlands by Vallonic.
