Consent Studio vs. Cookiebot

Most people arrive here part way through an evaluation, usually because a renewal is coming up or the invoice moved. One thing worth knowing before you compare: Cookiebot and Usercentrics are the same company, so a shortlist with both on it is shorter than it looks.

  • Ten euro a month per domain
  • No limit on pages, no billing per visitor
  • Built and owned in the Netherlands

What we can tell you about ourselves

Every one of these is checkable against our own pricing page and our own product, which is the only kind of claim this page will make.

  • One price, the whole stack

Ten euro a month per domain covers the banner, a client-side tag manager and a weekly scan of every page it can reach. There is no tier where the part that enforces consent is the upgrade.

  • European down to the infrastructure

Hosted in Amsterdam on infrastructure owned by Scaleway, an independently French company, so neither they nor we fall under the US CLOUD Act. Consent Studio is built and owned in the Netherlands by Vallonic.

  • Pages are not counted

A thousand-page site and a ten-page site pay the same. That matters most for the archive nobody visits, which is exactly the content a page-metered plan makes expensive to keep online.

  • A person answers

We are a small Dutch team and support is not a tier. Several of our customers say in their own words that this is why they moved, which is the closest thing to a comparative claim you will find here.

We only put ourselves next to platforms we respect. If Consent Studio did not exist, Cookiebot is one we would happily have pointed you at, and the rows above are where we differ rather than a verdict on their software.

The Cookiebot column is what they publish about themselves, read on 29 August 2026. Vendors change what they offer, so check the current version before deciding.

Three things worth checking on any consent platform

Run these against every vendor on your list, including us. They are answerable from public material, which is what makes them worth more than somebody else’s comparison table.

  • Who owns the company, and who owns them

Corporate ownership decides which legal regimes reach your data, and it changes without notice when a vendor is acquired. Cookiebot is owned by Usercentrics, which is worth knowing if both are on your shortlist.

    • Parent company
    • Acquisition history
    • Applicable law
  • What gets counted, and what happens when you exceed it

Pages, pageviews, sessions, visitors and domains are all used as billing units by somebody. Find the unit, find the allowance, then find the overage rate, because that third number is the one that turns a good month into an invoice.

    • The unit
    • The allowance
    • The overage
  • Where the consent records live, and who can compel them

Data centre location and corporate ownership are separate questions and only the second one answers the CLOUD Act. Ask both, and ask whether your own staff can export records without opening a support ticket.

    • Location
    • Ownership
    • Self-service export

We built one of the products on this page, so read it the way you would read any vendor’s comparison. The questions above are the part worth taking away: they work on us as well as on anybody else.

What moving actually costs

It is an afternoon for most sites and a fortnight for complicated ones. Here is where the time goes.

  1. Re-categorising your tags

This is the real work and no vendor can do it for you, because deciding whether a script is functional or marketing is a judgement about your business. Your existing categorisation gives you a head start, and it is worth re-checking rather than copying: our first scan usually finds tags the previous configuration never knew about.

  2. The old consent records

They stay with the old vendor unless you export them, and you should, before the account closes. Consent given under a previous banner does not carry over cleanly in any case, so most sites treat the switch as a point to re-ask rather than to migrate.

  3. The install itself

One script or one plugin, and the dashboard generates it for your domain. This is the part people expect to be hard and it is the part that takes twenty minutes.

  4. The renewal date you are waiting for

Most people put a move off until their current contract lapses, and that wait is longer than the move. Essential and Professional cost nothing with us until that date, however far off it is, so the site can move now and never lands on two bills in the same month.

What we charge, and what we count

Ten euro a month per domain, unlimited pages, inside a fair use range of 500,000 sessions a month. Agencies with many domains have a partner rate and large estates have Enterprise.

Questions people ask when comparing

Is Cookiebot owned by Usercentrics?

Yes. Usercentrics acquired Cookiebot, so the two brands people most often compare belong to one company. That is worth knowing if you are running what you believe is a three-way evaluation between them and one other vendor.

What does Cookiebot cost?

That is a question for their pricing page, and it is worth asking what the number includes. Ours is ten euro a month per domain, with no page limit and no per-visitor billing.

Is it hard to migrate from another consent platform?

The install is twenty minutes and the real work is re-categorising your tags, which is a judgement about your business rather than a technical task. Most sites are live the same afternoon. Export your existing consent records before closing the old account.

Do we lose our existing consent records?

They stay with your current vendor, so export them before the account closes. In practice most sites treat a switch as a point to re-ask rather than to migrate, because consent given against one banner’s wording does not transfer cleanly to another’s in any case.
