Consent Studio vs. iubenda

iubenda generates legal documents as well as handling consent, which is a thing we do not do at all. If what you want is a privacy policy written for you, that is a real reason to choose them. If what you want is consent that holds every tag to the answer, this page is about the difference.

  • Consent only, no document generator
  • Ten euro a month per domain
  • No pageview allowance to exceed

What we can tell you about ourselves

Checkable on our own pricing page. The statements about their model come from their published pricing on the date below.

  • A tag manager, not just a banner

Every tag runs through one place that knows what the visitor allowed, including the ones added later by somebody who did not tell you. Enforcement is the part that is hard to retrofit and it is included.

  • Traffic does not move the invoice

No pageview allowance and no charge above it. There is a fair use range of 500,000 sessions a month, and inside it a busy month costs what a quiet one costs.

  • A weekly scan of every reachable page

The crawl runs by itself and leads with what changed since last week rather than with a list of everything. It is on every plan, because a site that cannot see what changed cannot stay correct.

  • European ownership, down to the infrastructure

Amsterdam, on infrastructure owned by Scaleway, an independently French company outside the reach of the US CLOUD Act. Consent Studio is built and owned in the Netherlands.

These are the rows where the scope of the two products differs most, which is usually what decides it.

What to work out before you compare prices

Two products that do different amounts cannot be compared on headline price alone. Start here.

  • Do you need the legal documents

If you want a privacy policy and terms generated and kept current, that is a real requirement and it narrows your list fast. We do not do it, and a bundled generator is worth paying for if you would otherwise pay a lawyer.

    • Policy generator
    • Terms
    • Who maintains them
  • What is the billing unit

When we read their pricing, plans were quoted per site per month with a monthly pageview allowance and a charge per thousand above it. Find the allowance and the overage rate before comparing the headline figure.

    • Per site
    • Pageview allowance
    • Overage per thousand
  • Multiply the overage by a good month

Not by an average one. The overage rate is the number that decides whether a campaign that works is also a campaign that costs, and it is the figure furthest down any metered pricing page.

    • Your best month
    • Not the average
    • Then compare
  • Where are the records, and who owns the vendor

Location and corporate ownership are different questions and only the second answers the CLOUD Act. iubenda is part of team.blue; ask what that means for your data, as you would ask us.

    • Location
    • Parent company
    • Self-service export

We built one of the products on this page, so read it the way you would read any vendor’s comparison. The questions above are the part worth taking away: they work on us as well as on anybody else.

What moving actually costs

An afternoon for the consent half. The documents are the part that needs a decision first.

  1. Your legal documents stay where they are

We do not generate them, so if you are using a generator you either keep that subscription for the documents alone or move them elsewhere. Worth deciding before you start rather than discovering at the end.

  2. Re-categorising the tags

A judgement about your business rather than a technical task. Your existing categorisation is a head start worth re-checking rather than copying, because our first scan usually finds tags the previous setup never knew about.

  3. The old consent records

Export them before the account closes. Most sites treat a switch as a point to re-ask rather than to migrate, since consent given against one banner’s wording does not transfer cleanly to another’s.

  4. The renewal date you are waiting for

Most people put a move off until their current contract lapses, and that wait is longer than the move. Essential and Professional cost nothing with us until that date, however far off it is, so the site can move now and never lands on two bills in the same month.

What we charge, and what we count

Ten euro a month per domain, unlimited pages, no per-pageview billing, inside a fair use range of 500,000 sessions a month. Agencies have a partner rate; large estates have Enterprise.

Questions people ask when comparing

Does Consent Studio generate a privacy policy?

No, and that is a real difference rather than something on a roadmap. We do consent: the banner, the enforcement, the record and the weekly scan. If you want your legal documents generated and maintained, a product that does that is a legitimate choice and iubenda is one of them.

How does iubenda pricing work?

When we read their published pricing, plans were quoted per site per month and tiered by a monthly pageview allowance, with a charge per thousand pageviews above it. Check the current version before deciding, because vendors change what they charge and what they count.

Which works out cheaper?

It depends on your traffic and on whether you need the documents. Metered pricing is cheaper for a small site; ours does not move with traffic inside the fair use range. Work out your busiest month rather than your average one, and add the value of anything bundled that you would otherwise buy.

Is the migration difficult?

The consent half is an afternoon. The part to decide first is what happens to your legal documents, because we do not generate them. Export your existing consent records before closing anything.
