What is a Consent Management Platform?

A Consent Management Platform asks each visitor what tracking they are willing to accept, then holds every tag on your site to what they said. This page covers what one does, what to look for when you compare them, and what ours costs.

  • Built and owned in the Netherlands
  • Google Certified CMP Partner
  • One price per domain, unlimited pages

From €10 a month. No credit card, no per-visitor billing.

A banner on its own does not stop anything

Most sites already have one. Far fewer have a site that behaves the way the banner says it does, and the gap between the two is where enforcement lands.

  1. The banner asks the question

A visitor arrives, a panel appears, and they choose what they are happy with. This is the visible part of a CMP and the part most tools do competently. It is also the part that carries none of the legal weight on its own, because a question nobody acts on is not consent, it is a notice.

  2. The tags fire anyway

Analytics, advertising pixels, session recorders, chat widgets, embedded video, the tag your agency added for a campaign in 2023. Each one was installed separately and each one loads on its own schedule. Unless something actively holds them back, they run while the banner is still on screen.

  3. Nobody notices for months

A tag that fires without consent looks exactly like a tag that fires with it. Nothing breaks, no error is logged, and the dashboard fills with data that looks healthy. The usual way a site finds out is a complaint, an audit, or a regulator, and by then the record covers the whole period.

  4. Then you have to prove what happened

The question is never only whether you asked. It is what a specific visitor chose, on which version of the banner, and what your site did next. Without a record kept at the moment of the choice, that question has no answer you can stand behind.

Consent Studio is a CMP of a different kind

Four jobs, and a platform that does only the first is a banner with a longer name.

  • Ask, in the languages you activate

Show a banner that fits the site, in the languages you activate, with a rule per region that carries the choices the law there actually requires. A visitor in Berlin, one in California and one in Cape Town are owed different questions.

    • Per-region defaults
    • Your own styling
    • Multilingual
  • Hold your tags to the answer

A tag you add in the tag manager waits for the visitor’s answer, and a script already on the page is held once you mark it with its category, then released when that category is granted. This is the job a banner cannot do by itself, and it is why our banner ships with a tag manager rather than beside one.

    • Client-side tag manager
    • Consent Mode v2
    • First party delivery
  • Keep the record

Store what each visitor chose, when, and against which version of the banner text. A consent record is only worth anything if it was written at the moment of the choice and cannot be edited afterwards.

    • Timestamped
    • Versioned banner text
    • Exportable
  • Keep looking

Crawl the site every week and report anything that set a cookie or called out to a third party without permission. Sites change, agencies add tags, and a configuration that was correct in March is not automatically correct in September.

    • Weekly crawl
    • Change alerts
    • Every page

The Full Consent Stack is three products

Consent Management Platform is what the category is called. The Full Consent Stack is what ours is: the banner that asks, the tag manager that holds tags to the answer, and the crawl that keeps checking. All three are on every plan, so it describes what you get rather than a tier you upgrade into.

  • Web CMP

Collect. Asks each visitor the question, and keeps the record of what they answered.

  • Launcher

Control. A tag manager inside the banner, so a tag you gate does not fire before the visitor has cleared it.

  • Monitoring

Monitor. Crawls every page it can reach each week and reports whatever set a cookie without permission.

Getting one running

Most sites are live the same afternoon. The dashboard writes the install for your domain, so there is nothing generic to adapt.

  1. Register the domain

Create an account and add the site you want covered. No card, and the first seven days are free.

  2. Add it to the site

Paste the personalised snippet the dashboard generates, or install the plugin for your platform. Either way it is one addition to one place.

  3. Choose what gets gated

Pick which categories your tags belong to. The common ones, from Google Consent Mode to Microsoft Clarity, are already wired up.

  4. Let the scan run

The weekly crawl starts on its own and tells you what it found. That first report is usually the most interesting one.

One price, the whole stack

The banner, the tag manager and the weekly scan are on every plan. There is no tier where the part that enforces consent is the upgrade.

Questions people ask before choosing one

Do I need a consent management platform?

If your site loads anything from a third party before a visitor has agreed to it, yes. That includes analytics, advertising pixels, embedded video, maps, chat widgets and social buttons. A site that serves only its own pages and sets only its own strictly necessary cookies does not need one.

What is the difference between a cookie banner and a CMP?

The banner is the panel a visitor sees. The platform is everything behind it: the tag manager that holds your tags to the answer, the record of what was chosen, and the monitoring that catches what changed. Buying a banner on its own leaves you with the question asked and nothing enforcing it.

What is the difference between a CMP and the Full Consent Stack?

A Consent Management Platform is the category, and the Full Consent Stack is ours. It is three products rather than one: Web CMP asks the question and keeps the record, Launcher holds tags to the answer, and Monitoring crawls the site every week. All three are on every plan, so it describes what you get rather than a tier you buy.

Will it hurt my analytics?

Some data goes away, because some of it was never yours to collect. What you can do is stop losing the rest: Google Consent Mode lets Google model conversions from visitors who declined, and our tag manager sends the right signals from the first page load rather than after a redirect.

Can I use it on more than one website?

Yes, and each domain is priced separately at ten euro a month. Agencies and organisations running many domains should look at the Partner Programme instead, which exists precisely because per-domain pricing stops being sensible somewhere around the tenth one.

How long does it take to set up?

An afternoon for most sites, and minutes for one on a platform we have a plugin for. The part that takes real thought is deciding which of your existing tags belong in which category, which is a conversation with whoever added them rather than a technical task.

What does Consent Studio cost?

Ten euro a month per domain, with no limit on pages and no billing per visitor. That covers the banner, the tag manager and the weekly scan together, because all three are on every plan. Agencies and organisations running many domains have a partner rate, and organisations outside the fair use range have an Enterprise plan.

Where is our consent data stored?

In Amsterdam, on infrastructure owned and operated by Scaleway, a French company. That matters beyond the map pin: Scaleway is independently French rather than a European subsidiary of a US parent, so neither they nor we fall under the US CLOUD Act. Consent Studio itself is built and owned in the Netherlands by Vallonic.
