Consent Studio vs. OneTrust

These are not the same kind of product. OneTrust sells a broad privacy programme suite in which cookie consent is one module. Consent Studio is a consent platform and nothing else. Which is right for you depends on whether you are solving consent or running a privacy function.

  • One product, not a suite
  • Ten euro a month per domain
  • Published pricing, no quote needed

What a focused tool gets you

Every claim here is about us and checkable on our own pricing page. Nothing on this page characterises their software.

  • Live this afternoon

Register a domain, style the banner, add one script. There is no implementation phase, because there is no suite to configure around the part you needed.

  • The whole stack on every plan

Banner, client-side tag manager and a weekly scan of every page it can reach, at ten euro a month per domain. Enforcement is not a module you add once the banner is in.

  • European ownership, down to the infrastructure

Amsterdam, on infrastructure owned by Scaleway, an independently French company outside the reach of the US CLOUD Act. Consent Studio is built and owned in the Netherlands.

  • A price you can read

It is on our pricing page and it does not change with who is asking. That is worth stating because it is not universal: quote-based pricing makes the number a function of the negotiation.

Consent Studio and OneTrust, side by side

These are the rows a team buying consent on its own tends to weigh, rather than the full suite comparison.

We only put ourselves next to platforms we respect. If Consent Studio did not exist, OneTrust is one we would happily have pointed you at, and the rows above are where we differ rather than a verdict on their software.

The OneTrust column is what they publish about themselves, read on 29 August 2026. Vendors change what they offer, so check the current version before deciding.

How to tell which kind of product you need

These are questions about your own organisation, and they decide the answer more reliably than any feature list does.

  • Is consent the problem, or one of twelve?

If you also need data mapping, records of processing, vendor risk assessments and a DSAR workflow, a suite is a reasonable answer and we are not it. If the actual task is a banner that works and a record you can produce, a suite is a large tool for a small job.

    • Consent only
    • Whole programme
    • Be honest about which
  • Who is going to operate it?

Enterprise suites assume a privacy team. If the person maintaining this also owns the website and three other things, the deciding factor is whether they can change a banner without raising a ticket.

    • Privacy team
    • One person
    • Time to first change
  • Is the price published?

A published price means you can compare without a call and it does not depend on how the negotiation goes. When we read their cookie consent product page it carried no price. Check the current version.

    • Published or quoted
    • Renewal terms
    • What triggers an uplift
  • What happens at renewal?

Ask what the second-year price is and what makes it move, because that is where enterprise agreements differ most from published ones. Ask it before signing rather than eleven months in.

    • Year two
    • Uplift cap
    • Notice period
  • Where do the records live, and who owns the vendor?

Location and ownership are separate questions and only the second one answers the CLOUD Act. Ask both, whichever product you choose.

    • Location
    • Corporate ownership
    • Self-service export

We built one of the products on this page, so read it the way you would read any vendor’s comparison. The questions above are the part worth taking away: they work on us as well as on anybody else.

What moving involves

Moving off a suite is different from moving off a point tool, and it is worth being clear about which parts we replace.

  1. We replace the consent module, not the suite

If you are using the rest of the platform, this is a partial migration and the other modules stay where they are. Plenty of organisations run a suite for the programme and something focused for the website, which is a legitimate arrangement rather than a compromise.

  2. Re-categorising the tags

Your existing categorisation transfers as knowledge rather than as a file, and it is worth re-checking rather than copying. Our first scan usually finds tags nobody had recorded, which is the same finding on every migration regardless of what you are leaving.

  3. The contract, not the code

The technical move is an afternoon. The part that takes months is the agreement, which is why it is worth checking your notice period before you start evaluating rather than after.

  4. The renewal date you are waiting for

Most people put a move off until their current contract lapses, and that wait is longer than the move. Essential and Professional cost nothing with us until that date, however far off it is, so the site can move now and never lands on two bills in the same month.

Questions people ask when comparing

Is Consent Studio a OneTrust replacement?

For cookie consent, yes. For a full privacy programme suite, no, and we would rather say so than sell you something that does not do what you need. If you also need data mapping, assessments and vendor risk management, keep looking at suites.

What does OneTrust cost?

Their cookie consent product page did not publish a price when we read it, so the answer comes from a conversation with their sales team rather than from a page. Ours is published: ten euro a month per domain, and it does not change based on who is asking.

We are an enterprise. Are you big enough?

It depends on what you need, and the honest way to find out is to ask us the hard questions directly. Enterprise customers get dedicated infrastructure, an agreement rather than a signup, and answers about hosting and ownership that we are happy to put in writing.

Can we run both?

Yes, and several organisations do: a suite for the privacy programme and something focused for the website. That is a legitimate arrangement rather than a halfway house, particularly where the team running the site is not the team running the programme.
