How to set up cookie consent for Piwik PRO
Three of these are ordinary. The one worth reading is the third, because it is about a decision inside Piwik PRO rather than inside Consent Studio.
Install the banner
Add Consent Studio to your site, either as a script in your template or as our official tag in Google Tag Manager. Leave your Piwik PRO container exactly where it is. Nothing about this integration asks you to move, wrap or delay it, and the connection is made through Piwik PRO’s own API rather than by intercepting how it loads.
Switch the Piwik PRO integration on
Open Web CMP, go to Integrations and enable the Piwik PRO Consent API. It is one of the built-in integrations, so there is no key to copy, no snippet to paste and nothing to configure. From that point your analytics category drives Piwik PRO’s analytics consent, before the visitor answers and again once they have.
Decide which banner your visitors should see
This is the step that actually matters, and it happens on the Piwik PRO side. If its own consent request is still configured to appear, you will have two things asking the same question. Turn that off and let Consent Studio be the one that asks, because it is the one that also governs everything Piwik PRO cannot reach. Running both is the mistake worth avoiding here.
Check a refusal, not just an acceptance
Load your site in a private window and decline, then confirm in Piwik PRO that the visit is not being recorded the way an accepted one is. Accepting almost always looks right; refusing is where a half-connected setup shows itself. The weekly crawl will separately list what your pages load, which is the other half of the same check.

Frequently asked questions about Piwik PRO
Does Piwik PRO need a separate cookie banner?
Piwik PRO includes a consent manager, and it is built to govern Piwik PRO. It does not govern the embedded video, chat widgets, marketing pixels or platform tracking on the same page, so most sites still need something broader. What you should not do is run both asking separately.
Can I use Consent Studio instead of Piwik PRO’s consent manager?
Yes, and that is the usual setup. Consent Studio asks the visitor, records the answer and governs the whole page, then passes the analytics decision into Piwik PRO through its own compliance API. Piwik PRO acts on it exactly as if its own manager had collected it, so nothing about your analytics setup changes.
Does Piwik PRO need consent if it is hosted in the EU?
Hosting location changes who holds the data, not whether something is stored on your visitor’s device, and consent rules for storage turn on the storing. EU or private-cloud hosting is a real privacy improvement and a good reason to choose Piwik PRO; on its own it does not remove the question.
